Privacy
The short version. This website counts visits and measures advertising, using cookies from Google and Meta. The game itself does not. Your scores, streaks and saved games are stored on your own device and are never sent anywhere — there is no account, no server holding your results, and no tracking inside the game or the Android app. The only personal information I ever receive directly is an email address, and only if you choose to type one into the signup form.
Elerummy is made by The Unbeaten Path, LLC, an Illinois limited liability company. This policy covers three separate things, and they are deliberately treated differently:
- The website at elerummy.com — the home page, this page and the signup confirmation page. This part uses cookies.
- The game, played in your browser at elerummy.com/play. No cookies, no analytics, no tracking of any kind.
- The Android app. Also nothing.
The website: what is collected
The pages around the game use cookie-based measurement. Google Analytics is in use now: it counts visits, which pages were viewed, roughly where in the world visitors came from, and which link or search brought them. That tells me whether anyone is finding the game.
When advertising campaigns are running, two more work alongside it — Google Ads, which records that an ad click led to a visit so I can tell which advertising is worth paying for, and Meta, which does the same for advertising on Facebook and Instagram. The cookie choice below covers all of them.
Between them these collect: your IP address (used to estimate your city or region, not your street), your browser and device type, which pages you looked at and for how long, whether you clicked through to play, and a randomly generated identifier that lets the same browser be recognized on a return visit. They do not collect your name, your email address or your location in any precise sense, and I never see an individual person's browsing — only totals.
Google and Meta receive this data and are governed by their own policies: Google's privacy policy and Meta's privacy policy. I do not sell anyone's information, and I do not combine it with anything else.
The game: nothing, by design
The game pages at elerummy.com/play carry none of the above. No analytics, no advertising tags, no cookies. This is a deliberate line, not an oversight — the same files are what the Android app is built from, and keeping them clean is what lets the Google Play listing truthfully say the app collects no data.
The game keeps your progress using your device's own storage: your current game, your daily streak and record, your lifetime statistics, and your difficulty setting. None of it leaves your device. There is no server holding your scores, no account to sign into, and no way for me to see how you are doing. Clearing your browser data, or uninstalling the app, deletes all of it permanently — I cannot restore it, because I never had it.
Your cookie choice
If you are visiting from Europe or the United Kingdom you are asked before any of the measurement cookies are set, and nothing is set unless you accept. Declining costs you nothing: the website and the game work identically either way.
Wherever you are, you can clear or block these cookies in your browser's settings at any time, use Google's own opt-out add-on, or adjust what Google and Meta are allowed to use in your account settings with each of them.
Ordinary web server records
Separately from the above, and like every website on the internet, this one runs on a web host (Netlify) whose servers keep standard request logs — the IP address a request came from, the time, and which file was asked for. The Android app also fetches its daily puzzle file from this site, which creates the same kind of log entry.
These are ordinary technical records that every web server produces. They are not linked to any identity, they are not used to build a profile of anyone, they are not sold or shared, and I do not analyze them to track individual people. They exist to keep the site running and secure.
The email signup
If you enter your email address in the form on the home page, it is stored by the website's form service (Netlify Forms) so that I can email you when the Android app or the printed deck is released.
Your address is not sold, rented or shared with anyone, and is not used for anything except those occasional announcements. Reply to any message, or write to the address below, and I will delete it.
Children and classrooms
This website is aimed at adults — players, parents and teachers deciding whether the game is worth their time. It is not directed to children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect information from them through it.
The game is a different matter, and that is the point of keeping it separate. A class playing at elerummy.com/play, or on the Android app, is tracked by nothing at all: no cookies, no analytics, no advertising identifiers, no student data transmitted, stored or seen by me. There is nothing for a school or a parent to consent to, because nothing is collected. If you are a teacher who would rather your students never touch the marketing pages, send them straight to elerummy.com/play.
Your choices
You can delete everything the game has stored by clearing your browser's site data, or by uninstalling the app. You can clear or refuse the website's cookies as described above. You can have your email address removed from the signup list at any time by asking. If you would like to know what, if anything, is held about you, write to the address below and I will tell you.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. The Android app currently collects nothing, and its Google Play data disclosure says so. If an advertising-supported version of the app is ever released, this policy will say so plainly before that version ships, and the Play listing's disclosure will be updated to match. The free, no-advertising version of the game that exists today will not be changed retroactively.
